Located 12 miles south of downtown Talkeetna, it’s an easy two-hour drive from Anchorage to our door. Make air travel plans to Anchorage then either drive or take the train.
From the Parks Highway toward Fairbanks, take the Talkeetna Spur Road turnoff at mile 98. At mile 2 of the Talkeetna Spur Rd. turn left (West) onto Sunshine Road. We’re a mile and a half in at the end of the road - watch for the sign to Fireweed Station.
Our favorite way to get here is the old way, on the Alaska Railroad. Until 1964, the railroad was the only way to get to Sunshine, Alaska - where Fireweed Station is located.
During the winter schedule, the Alaska Railroad flag stop train departs Anchorage Saturdays and the first Thursday of every month at 8:30am, arriving at Fireweed Station around 11:15am. You may flag the return train to Anchorage on Sunday afternoons at about 5:00pm, arriving Anchorage around 8:00pm.
The Alaska Railroad offers the only remaining flag stop service in the U.S. - don’t miss this rare opportunity!
If you’ll be flying to the area in a personal aircraft, talk to us about nearby landing options.
No matter how you get here, it’s easy to feel as if you’ve arrived at the edge of the earth - but you’ll have every comfort at your fingertips!
